Equinor makes new oil and gas find near Troll in Norway

Equinor and partners have discovered oil and gas in the Fram area, 9 kilometres north of the Troll field in the Norwegian North Sea, the company said on Sunday.

Exploration well 35/11-31 S in production licence 090 encountered petroleum in two reservoirs, one containing oil and gas and the other gas only. Estimated resources range from 0.1 million to 1.1 million standard cubic metres.

The reservoir properties were described as moderate to very good. The discovery, preliminarily named F-South, may be tied back to existing or future infrastructure.

“These are discoveries in an interesting area with a well-developed infrastructure. In recent years, we have made several discoveries in the neighbourhood, and we plan to further explore the area,” Equinor senior vice-president for exploration and production west Geir Sørtveit said.

The COSL Innovator rig drilled the well. The licence partners are Equinor (45%), Vår Energi (40%) and INPEX Idemitsu Norge (15%).

Equinor is Norway’s state-backed energy major, engaged globally in the exploration, development and production of oil, gas and renewables. It has a significant presence on the Norwegian continental shelf and is developing multiple subsea projects in the North Sea.

Vår Energi is a leading independent upstream company in Norway, focused on exploration, development and production across the Norwegian continental shelf.

INPEX Idemitsu Norge is a subsidiary of Japanese energy company INPEX, active in exploration and production in the North Sea region.
